Views from the Delaware Shore

I was recently in Rehoboth Beach and Lewes, two beautiful spots along the Delaware shore.  Some college friends and I had a small place to stay for a long weekend, and it was fantastic.

I did get some nice photos of the trip, too.  I didn’t bring my Canon 7D, but rather my Canon point and shoot, a Canon PowerShot SX210 IS.  It’s an older model, but it has a great optical zoom.  I also used my iPhone 6s for a few shots, too.

I’ll share a few of my favorite shots here, but to see the rest, head on over to my Flickr album of all the photos, and take a look at them.  In the meantime, take a look at my favorites.

Surprise Cats

I absolutely love the photo of my great-grandfather Harry with his prize catch.  This photo was taken in Atlantic City.  The cat makes the photo, along with Harry’s huge smile while showing off his big fish.

I’m pretty sure Harry wasn’t expecting to compete with a cat for his dinner.

I don’t know why I decided to do a post themed “surprise cats.”  I guess, this photo reminded me of one that I took a while ago and was the first photo that I ever posted on Flickr.

See the kitten in the middle?  I didn’t notice that before.  I just shot the candid people at the time.  Then I got my film developed.  Boom! Surprise cat!

Busy vendors in Chinatown, NYC

New York City 2008

In 2008, I hadn’t been to New York City in a very long time, so I jumped at the chance when friends suggested we take a bus trip up there.  Sure!

I was just discovering photography then.  I only had my old 4MP digital point and shoot camera, as a well a film one, too. I was also learning some funky post-processing techniques, such as cross-processing a digital photo.

The above photo was take on Canal Street in Chinatown, NYC, which was PACKED that day.  We also took a ferry out to the Statue of Liberty, and bopped around Times Square.

Here are a few more of my favorites from the day.

You can see some of post-processing fun in the last two photos.

Random Flickr Photo Monday

I know it’s blurry, but I wanted to be fast and shot this from the hip.  I took this April 16, 2010 at Central Market in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA.  I used my old point and shoot camera on the black and white setting, but above is one of three photos I got on that day that I apparently liked.  Here are the other two.

I could eat one of those strawberry tarts right now.

From the middle photo, you can see how busy Central Market, the oldest indoor farmers’ market of its kind in the USA, can get.

Anyway, please enjoy, and, as always, pop on over to my Flickr photostream for more goodies.

Second Annual Reading Fire + Ice Fest

I was at the First Annual Reading Fire + Ice Fest last year. It was frickin’ cold, and there was neat things to see and good entertainment.  I told myself that I was going to dress warmer and bring my camera for the next year.

I did both.

I got some excellent shots of both the fire, such as Philadelphia-based fire flow artist Madeleine Belle, featured above, and ice, such as the carver below.

I had a really great time!  I was there with Joan, and you can see her video of one of Madeleine Belle’s performances here.

If you would like, I actually posted these photos over on Flickr, rather than Zenfolio.  I will post them on Zenfolio soon, but I want to go through my GoPro shots and footage first.  Stay tuned for that!

Hidden Gem: Cape May 2011

I like to go back through old photos on Flickr and on my website from time to time and stroll through memory lane.  I came across this photo above, taken at the Lobster House restaurant in Cape May, New Jersey, USA.  My friend Joan and I were waiting to be seated for dinner, so we decided to look around the grounds of restaurant, which was right on the harbor.  This ship was sitting outside on the water.

I know I probably did some post-processing adjustment with this one, but I like what I did.  Plus, I like how I got the detail of the rope.  Not bad for using a digital point and shoot camera.

So, that’s what I found today.  What photos have you taken years ago surprises you today?
